Educational Advising Center (EAC)


The Educational Advising Center (EAC) in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan is one of more than 450 advising centers around the world supported by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.

The EAC offers accurate, comprehensive, objective and timely information about educational opportunities in the United States and guidance to qualified individuals on how best to access those opportunities.

The EAC is freely accessible to students, non-governmental organizations, government officials and ordinary citizens who wish to learn more about opportunitites to study in the US.

The EAC is staffed by a professional adviser who has first-hand experience with the US educational system. Eldar Hudiyev has completed undergraduate and graduate programs in the United States and is a recipient of the US State Department-sponsored Undergraduate Exchange Program. Eldar has received State Department-approved training about United States higher education and the advising process.

The staff of the EAC put a priority on reaching diverse populations and educating a wide variety of potential applicants interested in academic programs in the United States. Potential applicants to US universities are welcome to make an appointment for an individual consultation or to attend a group advising session.

The EAC has a free public-access Internet center, where potential applicants to US colleges can research US universities, study for the TOEFL, prepare application materials, and search for scholarships and financial aid.

Every week, potential applicants to US colleges can attend lectures and presentations on the application process to US colleges, standardized tests required for admission, the US educational system, and statement of purpose writing.

The EAC library offers a wide range of English language materials, including US college and graduate program catalogues, study guides for standardized tests, English language textbooks and teaching materials, fiction, current magazines/periodicals, reference materials (encyclopedias and dictionaries), and educational videos/DVDs. All of the materials can be checked out and taken home by library patrons.

The EAC reaches over 1000 individuals per month. This includes individuals visiting the library, using the computers/Internet, and attending advising presentations and lectures.
