What Is SAT I?
The General SAT Test is a globally recognized college admission test that lets you show colleges what you know and how well you can apply that knowledge. It tests your knowledge of reading, writing and math — subjects that are taught every day in high school classrooms. Most students take the SAT during their junior or senior year of high school, and almost all colleges and universities use the SAT to make admission decisions.

The Redesigned SAT consists of two parts:

  • Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW)
  • Math

One of the biggest changes of the redesigned SAT is the essay, and specifically that the essay is now optional. This means that you can choose whether or not you want to write the Essay based on your school SAT requirements.

In addition, your essay score will not be calculated towards your final numerical SAT score results; instead, it will be reported separately. It will receive three scores between 2 and 8: one score for Reading, one for Analysis, and one for Writing. A 2 is the lowest score for any category, while 8 is the highest.

Test usually lasts for 3 hours (+50 minute optional essay), with the scoring of 400-1600.

Testing Questions Time Scoring
Evidence-Based Reading 52 65 min. 200-800
Writing & language 44 35 min. 200-800
Math 58 80 min 200-800
Essay 1 50 min. 2-8

If you choose to send more than four or to send scores outside the registration time period, you will be charged $12 per score send.

Score Choice gives you the option to choose which scores (by test date for the SAT and by individual test for SAT Subject Tests™) you send to colleges — in accordance with an institution’s stated score-use practice.

If you decide not to use Score Choice, all of your scores will be sent to your recipients.*

*You should still feel comfortable sending all scores, since most colleges consider a student’s best score.

What is the difference between the ACT and SAT?
The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The SAT is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and verbal abilities.
