Position Description
SUMMARY
The position is responsible for leading Prep4Success student and teacher cohort and U.S. higher education preparation related to the EducationUSA activities at Dashoguz American Corner. This position reports directly to the Prep4Success Program Manager, Country Director and requires close coordination with Dashoguz American Corner Manager, and other American Councils staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Prep4Success program related (75% time):
• Facilitating Prep4Success student and teacher cohorts at DAC;
• Assisting with regional recruitment and processing of incoming program applications, including receiving and reviewing applications, proctoring tests and participating in interviews;
• Supporting mentorship program and mentoring alumni projects in the region;
• Tracking participant progress and provide recommendations for self-study to improve their performance;
• Following curriculum components for Prep4Success student and teacher programs in consultation with other program trainers and advisers;
• Traveling to participate in the trainings, professional development events, and meet-ups;
• Responding to program inquiries from participants, applicants, and the general public in your region;
• Including Prep4Success program-related sessions, workshops and events in the corner calendar;
• Assisting in the collection of and processing of program feedback;
• Compiling program statistics in the region and assisting with reporting;
• Performing other duties as assigned by the Prep4Success Program Manager, Dashoguz American Corner Manager and the Country Director.
EducationUSA related (25% time):
• Preparing DAC visitors to apply for and succeed in a U.S. higher education institution;
• Mentoring individuals and structured groups of visitors on how to independently apply to U.S. institutions;
• Providing information on common U.S. standardized tests required for admission to U.S. colleges and universities;
• Giving presentations and responding to inquiries related to U.S. higher education opportunities;
• Assisting with DAC statistics collection and other required reporting;
• Providing administrative support to DAC as needed and assigned;
• Performing other duties as assigned by Dashoguz American Corner Manager and the American Councils Country Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree required from a U.S. or foreign institution with a U.S. academic model (i.e. AUBG), or local university with minimum two years of teaching or working experience;
• Experience training and mentoring volunteers, developing, organizing and implementing projects (at an American Corner preferred)
• Experience in academic training, processes and procedures related to the U.S. higher education application cycle, as well as standardized testing procedures(preferred);
• Strong MS Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, Internet, administrative and other general computer skills.
• Strong writing, communication, cross-cultural, and interpersonal skills;
• Strong English language skills; Turkmen and/or Russian language skills;
• Demonstrated experience with international standards for academic writing such as MLA, APA, or other citation system;
• Demonstrated training and/or teaching experience, organizational background, and problem-solving skills;
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and contribute to a team effort;
• Positive and enthusiastic attitude;
• Turkmen citizenship.
• No immediate family members applying for/enrolled in an American Councils administered program at time of employment or during tenure of employment.
In general, all American Councils staff members are expected to support a positive, team atmosphere and step outside of their formal roles from time-to-time to support the organization, special initiatives, or individual programs when needed.
