EducationUSA Turkmenistan: Virtual Sessions from home

Due to the efficiency and success of the first virtual session, EducationUSA Turkmenistan continues organizing more on-line sessions with the cohort students and alumni from home. Thus, on April 28 and May 1, 2020 cohort students participated in two webinars conducted by the University of Rochester on “Financial Aid for International Students” and Orange Coast College on “California Community Colleges” co-hosted with the EducationUSA Ashgabat office. The virtual sessions were conducted using the “Zoom” application (an application enabling live video conferencing) with over 40 cohort participants taking part in an interactive and live video chat with the University of Rochester and 29 cohorts joined with the Orange Coast.

Throughout the sessions, participants were able to exchange ideas, ask questions and learn more about different ways to fund US education as well as two-year colleges explained. Also, students were able to have live conversational practice with native English speakers, while discussing a variety of topics, including food on and off-campus employment opportunities, transition to a university life, and more followed by a Q&A session on the admission process with a representative of the international admission office at the University of Rochester and Orange Coast College. The webinars were recorded and shared with all the registered students

Successful Transfer of the EducationUSA Turkmenistan Cohorts Alumni

Six EducationUSA cohorts’ alumni from Turkmenistan are completing their Associates degree at Snow College and successfully transferring to 4-year institutions to complete their Bachelor’s degree in the US. In fact, the “2+2” pathway is very popular in Turkmenistan and both students and parents find it to be the most affordable and viable way in getting a US degree. As a result, four of these cohorts’ alumni are going to pursue their Bachelor’s degree at Northwest Missouri State University (NMSU), whereas others are going into Dixie State University, Southern Utah University and Utah Valley University in Fall 2020 with generous scholarship awards.

Further, Dr. Phillip Hull, Director at International Involvement Center notes that the NMSU “has a transfer agreement with Snow College”, and shares this as a great example of a successful collaboration and partnership between the US HEIs and EducationUSA. Snow College and Northwest Missouri State University were both among participating institutions at the EducationUSA Fall 2019 Central Asia Tour.
