Inside a U.S. Global Brand: C5+O.N.E. Participants Visit Coca-Cola in Turkmenistan

On January 20, as part of its supplemental activities, C5+O.N.E. Cohort 5 participants visited the Coca-Cola production facility in Ashgabat. Field visits are a core element of the program, linking classroom learning in professional English, business, and economic concepts with direct exposure to real-world corporate operations.

Coca-Cola, a U.S.-founded global brand, has been operating in Turkmenistan since 1998 as the official bottler and market representative. During the visit, participants learned about the company’s history in the country, its organizational structure, and its role in the local market, offering a clear example of how American companies adapt global standards to regional contexts.

Company representatives guided participants through the full production process, providing a step-by-step overview of key departments and operations. Participants visited the laboratory, where they learned about quality control systems, safety standards, and the importance of precision in maintaining product consistency. Throughout the visit, staff members shared their professional experience and engaged participants in discussion, responding to questions in English.

Participants were particularly impressed by Coca-Cola’s high production standards, strong quality culture, and professional working environment. Reflecting on the experience, Cohort 5 participant Rowshen Gowshakow shared:

“As a graphic designer, I know that the Coca-Cola logo hasn’t been rebranded since 1893 and is one of the most powerful brands in the world. About 10 years ago, Coca-Cola introduced packaging with Turkmen names, and I still have the packaging with my name and my wife’s. Visiting the factory and seeing it with my own eyes was an unforgettable experience.”

The visit reinforced participants’ understanding of how international companies operate locally while upholding global standards. By engaging directly with professionals from a U.S.-founded company, participants strengthened their professional English skills, gained practical insight into modern production systems, and deepened their understanding of how global business practices support efficiency, quality, and market trust.

C5+O.N.E., funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by the American Councils for International Education, builds English proficiency and professional skills across Central Asia to advance regional integration and stronger economic ties with the United States for shared prosperity.
