Position Description
Summary
The Turkmenabat American Corner is seeking a motivated and dynamic Debate Club Program Facilitator to lead a short-term youth debate program focused on English language development and public speaking skills. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with project or event leadership experience who enjoys working with youth, collaborating with teams, and engaging with the public.
Program Overview
The Debate Club Program is designed to promote English language proficiency and essential public speaking skills through a structured debate format. The curriculum targets youth interested in current, high-growth fields and real-world issues shaping the future. Participants will receive training in formal debate structures, argumentation, and refutation, culminating in a judged team debate competition. The program will be conducted entirely in English.
Responsibilities
• Attend mandatory virtual Training of Trainers (ToT) in February 2026
• Design and coordinate the program curriculum after receiving training from an expert, focusing on topics such as:
– Building strong arguments: claims, evidence, and reasoning
– Public speaking and persuasive communication skills
– Research and critical reading strategies
– IPDA Debate format
• Facilitate structured debate sessions in English
• Guide participants in developing argumentation, critical thinking, and public speaking skills
• Utilize interactive tools and methods to engage the students
• Follow the schedule set by American Spaces
• Identify local experts from your own city or region and invite them as juries
• During the project implementation, conduct and collect surveys and photos/videos from the activities
• Prepare the program participants for the final debate competition
• Develop and administer pre- and post-training surveys to measure participant progress
• Upon the completion of the project, submit detailed reports, evaluation forms, statistics, and photos from the project activities to the project coordinator
• Coordinate program logistics and session planning with the guidance from Turkmenabat American Corner Manager
• Collaborate closely with American Corner staff and program partners
Reporting & Coordination
The Facilitator reports directly to the Turkmenabat American Corner Manager and works in frequent coordination with the American Spaces Experiential Learning Assistant and the American Corners Grant Manager.
Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher;
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English;
• Interest in debate, education, or experiential learning;
• Knowledgeable about the fields such as Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Business and Innovation;
• Experience in activity or project organization is preferred;
• Previous experience in conducting trainings is preferred;
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to organize, encourage, inspire, and motivate youth;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and in a team.
