VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: ALUMNI TEACHING ASSISTANT 2025 Pre-Departure Orientation

Purpose of Position: To assist the PDO Teacher in preparing program participants for their exchange experience using materials provided by American Councils; to plan PDO sessions together with the local PDO team; to share your experiences as an alumna/us of the program; to teach students in English about American culture and life in an American host family.

Application Deadline: January 15, 2025

Description of Duties:

  •  Learn the established goals and objectives of the program and its pre-departure orientation materials;
  • Attend the entire in-person four-day Training of Teachers workshop (TOT) in April and become thoroughly familiar with the lesson plans;
  • Actively participate in PDO planning and preparation meetings coordinated by your local program hub office in the time period between the TOT workshop and the beginning of your assigned PDO cycle;
  • Assist orientation teachers by acting as a cross-cultural resource and role model for students;
  • Conduct Alumni-led sessions of the PDO, as assigned;
  • During non-classroom hours, be a supportive listener and positive role model for students;
  • Maintain program integrity at all times by enforcing organizational rules and regulations;
  • Perform other logistical duties as assigned by the Program Hub Director.

Re-entry Seminar in Turkmenistan

On July 1st, fifteen FLEX alumni from across Turkmenistan gathered for a Re-entry seminar in Archabil Hotel in Ashgabat. The event started with an opening speech by Nona Majidi, Cultural Affairs Officer at the US Embassy in Turkmenistan. Carrie Miller, Country Director of the American Councils in Turkmenistan and Diana Muhammedova’08, FLEX Program Hub Director followed with the welcoming remarks.

FLEX 30th Anniversary!

On June 30, American Councils in Turkmenistan celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the FLEX program to highlight program’s success and impact on its alumni. The event was divided into two parts, starting with a professional development workshop led by a global educator and trainer, Simon Norton focused on “Aligning Work and Life Choices with Your Purpose, Values and Compass”, ending with a gala reception. Following the workshop, alumni enjoyed a reception where Embassy guests, including Mr. Ambassador Klimow and Mrs. Klimow and Cultural Affairs Officer, Nona Majidi, attended.
